Sadaqah
“If a human dies, then his good deeds stop except for three: a Sadaqa Jariah (continuous charity), a beneficial knowledge, or a righteous child who prays for him.” – Sahih Muslim
Sadaqah, meaning ‘charity’, is the concept of voluntary giving in Islam. The term stems from the Arabic root word ‘sidq’, which means sincerity. So giving sadaqah is considered a sign of sincere faith.
Sadaqah is different from zakat, in that it is not obligatory on any kind of surplus wealth. Described in the Holy Qur’an as ‘a beautiful loan’, sadaqah encompasses any act of charitable giving done out of compassion, love, friendship or generosity. It can be given to anyone, and it has no limits or guidelines. In the Islamic faith, even a smile is considered sadaqah.
Sadaqah may be given to mark or bring blessings to special occasions such as weddings, births, and personal success, as a sign of gratitude to Allah ﷻ. It may also be given in instances of sadness and bereavement, or on behalf of others.
Many of our overseas development projects run on sadaqah and Lillah donations of our generous UK donors. Theses range from providing much needed medical aid in rural Pakistan, to building water wells in remote African villages; from protecting and educating orphans, to giving poor couples the means to get married.
Pakistan Orphanage
With your Sadaqah, SYT was able to complete construction last year on our orphanage in Southern Pakistan. Currently we arable to accommodate up to 16 orphaned children here. In a safe and nurturing environment, we provide our children with all their basic needs as well as an education. Here they also are able to gain vocational skills that will give them the means to earn a livelihood in the future.
Africa Water Well
With your Sadaqah and in partnership with Muslim Hands, SYT completed its first ground water well project in Mali. Our well provides 130 families with safe drinking water as well as the means to irrigate their crops. It has saved a village from sickness and poverty caused by the water crisis.
Your ongoing support will allow us continue our aid work in developing countries; expand our orphanage to accommodate more orphaned children, and to save scores of families from thirst. Please continue to support our work.
